The truth about the lazy British.

Basically, it's not true that we're lazy, the truth is we actually work longer hours than most other countries and have a relatively low unemployment rate, at one time it was said the sun never set on the British Empire, English is the most widely spoken language in the world, we have one of the highest literacy rates in the World and one of the highest proportions of people in further education, our legal system is one of the most respected in the World, the list of British inventions debunks a few myths, every time you watch TV or ironically enough use the internet, remember the nationality of the people who invented them, you wouldn't even be able to be online without the telephone, another British invention, going abroad, this year? If you're going by plane, who invented the jet engine, hopefully the radar will be in good working order too? Maybe you might go by hovercraft or use railways, we got round to inventing them too, if you're sending a postcard, it was a Briton who invented the postage stamp? Next time you use toilet paper, it was a very practical Briton who invented that too, nobody sends faxes these days but we invented them too, How would you open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew? Cut the grass without a lawnmower? Drive safely at night in isolated areas without 'cats eyes'? Keep dry in the rain without an umbrella? We invented viagra so we've probably saved a few relationships and penicillin and saved a few lives too. I know the Hollywood version of events can't be relied upon, have you seen Arnie in 'True lies', Harrier jump jet used by the US Marines but invented by the British, submarines, another one of our inventions, chances are you've done a crossword, listened to a lot of British music on the radio (another idea we laid the foundations for) or watched BBC news at some point. You probably like sport, we've not done too badly on the sporting front over the years and we even invented a few. Next time you use a vacum cleaner to hoover up crumbs from your toaster, don't forget we invented them too, it is fashionable to knock the British for some reason, but for a moderately sized country, we've got an amazing history, the most unique sense of humour and above all, ask the majority of Poles living here and they will tell you, we're quite a friendly lot too, people from all over the World choose to live in our great country, we havea generally good relationship with Poland and the Polish people, every town and City in UK seems to have a Polish community and in general, they have integrated well, brought their culture, enthusiasm and in general positive attitude to this country, we in turn have
largely accepted the Poles, it's all down to mutual respect. Poles now make up the largest immigrant group in this country, we didn't know what to expect at first, it was estimated 13,000 would arrive but the real figure was around 2 Million, I would guess that around at least a quarter are still here and for the main part, it's good to have you here.
